According to the national voter survey from McLaughlin & Associates, 7 in 10 likely voters want to reinstate the safeguard requiring a woman to visit a doctor in person before receiving an abortion drug prescription.
Kelsey Pritchard of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America says this poll should show the Trump White House that "it's not only the right thing to do to end mail-order abortions, but it's the politically smart thing to do."
She thinks the fact that even 57% of liberal voters favor rolling back the Biden-era policy should speak volumes to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which has maintained the Biden rule.
"They can end that rule today and go back to the policy that was in place under Trump's first administration, and we're urging them to do so as soon as possible so that more women and girls don't end up in the ER and to save more unborn children," the pro-lifer relays.
Noting that the abortion industry has been "lying for years" about the safety of abortion pills, David Closson, director of the Center for Biblical Worldview at the Family Research Council (FRC), is encouraged by the survey findings because they show the vast majority of Americans understand that these pills, which are designed to end children's lives, are dangerous.
He says mifepristone and misoprostol are "always dangerous and lethal for the precious unborn child, but they are also dangerous for women."
Even the back of the box warns that 2.9%-5.4% of women who take them have a "terrible health outcome" – though it is closer to 11%, according to the Ethics and Public Policy Center.
"When these chemical abortion pills were first approved 25 years ago in the fall of 2000, you had to go to a doctor three times," Closson recently told "Washington Watch." "Only a physician could dispense these pills. You had to report any adverse health outcomes."
The Obama administration had already walked back some of those safeguards before the Biden administration used the pandemic as an excuse to keep pregnant women away from doctors. Now, FRC is encouraging the Trump administration's FDA to walk back its approval of mifepristone.
Until that happens, they want safeguards in place.
"We actually want them to add an ultrasound requirement, because this is what's safe for women," Closson said.
Pritchard urges people to share this information with pro-life legislators, governors, and/or attorneys general to "make sure that they know that this is very important and a commonsense move" for the Trump administration.
She says allowing the Biden rule to continue is subverting pro-life state laws by giving Democratic governors like Kathy Hochul (New York) and Gavin Newsom (California) the green light to mail abortion drugs to states like Texas that protect life all throughout pregnancy.
"If we're going to respect state sovereignty and states' rights, we need to get to common sense here and end this Biden rule," Pritchard concludes.
