Virginia governor launches abortion investigation into public school

The state of Virginia has launched a full-scale investigation into reports that staff at a Fairfax County school arranged abortions for students without parental consent.

Fairfax County Public Schools says they have launched an investigation into Centreville High School. Accusation have arisen that the school arranged and used taxpayer dollars to fund the abortions of girls, one a 17-year-old, back in 2021. All of this without the consent of any parents.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) has gotten involved as he directs the state police to open up a criminal investigation into the school, reports Fox News.

Melanie Israel, visiting fellow of the Heritage Foundation, says outraged parents and pro-life advocates, understandably, want answers.

"We're so relieved that Governor Youngkin is taking these allegations very seriously, not only to determine if they violated those parental notification laws but also to look at how taxpayer dollars may have been spent to facilitate those abortions, whether that be state or federal dollars,” states Israel.

Israel surmised to say that this has been happening to other students.

"To think that somebody in a position of power at this school was potentially coercing a minor to have an abortion against her will, it quite honestly raises questions of how many other girls may have been coerced or counseled to take actions that they didn't actually want," Israel says.

She fears that if Virginia Democrats take control of the legislature in the coming year, there will be a pro-abortion measure on the ballot that would wipe away most restrictions, like parental notification and consent.
