The new policy must go through a public comment period, which runs through Sept. 3, before it can be implemented, the Associated press reported.
Abortion was not covered at Veterans Affairs until the Biden administration added it in 2022, when the landmark Dobbs ruling overturned Roe v. Wade.

Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life Committee, hasn’t forgotten when the previous pro-abortion administration made that decision.
“Funding for abortion through the VA was never authorized by Congress,” she says. “So it's great that the Trump administration is finally taking care of this."
Nancy Northup, who leads the Center for Reproductive Rights, complained the Trump administration is trying to “rob” military veterans of their “freedoms” and is putting their health at risk.
“This shows you just how extreme this administration's anti-abortion stance is,” the abortion leader claimed. “They would rather a veteran suffer severely than receive an abortion."
According to the AP story, however, the VA says only about 100 veterans and 40 dependents have had an abortion each year since 2022. The Biden administration predicted 1,000 veterans and family members would benefit annually.
