Rep. Max Miller, who has represented Ohio's 7th District since being elected in 2022, is facing intense political pressure over domestic abuse allegations made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno.
What adds to that allegation is Moreno is the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (pictured below), Ohio’s first-term U.S. senator. Sen. Moreno, siding with his daughter, has said his former son-in-law is “not fit to serve” in Congress.
Tom Zawistowski is president of the We the People Convention. He told American Family News he knows all the parties involved and says a “horrible tragedy” is playing out in front of the public.
Regarding the accusations of physical abuse, Zawistowski said he is aware Miller is denying the accusations and is fighting back in the courts.
Miller has begun a legal counter-offensive by filing a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife and her attorneys. He also released documents to the public, including police records, that he says prove his innocence.
“I think he's got court documents that certainly show the accusations are grossly and greatly exaggerated,” Zawistowski told AFN.
As far as politics goes, Zawistowski said Miller could lose to his Democrat opponent, Brian Poindexter, who has a double-digit lead in the polls.
Miller could still win re-election, the conservative activist said, but his decision to remain in the race could hurt the Republican Party in its bid to capture a House seat from a Democrat incumbent, Rep. Marcy Kaptur.
Ohio is currently represented by 10 Republicans and five Democrats, including Rep. Kaptur, in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“We feel pretty confident we're going to take that seat,” Zawistowski advised. “But, instead of a gain, if Max Miller loses, it'll be a wash. And that's not good."
In the U.S. Senate, Ohio is represented by Sen. Moreno and a second Republican, Jon Husted.
