The Michigan primaries are August 5, and Republicans see an opportunity to pick up the Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Gary Peters, who is not seeking a third term.
Mike Rogers, who barely lost two years ago in the state's other Senate race to Democrat Elissa Slotkin by less than 20,000 votes, is the presumptive GOP nominee. His Democratic opponent this time is likely Abdul El-Sayed (pictured above).
"Abdul El-Sayed appeared at the Islamic Circle of North America and Muslim American Society Convention," notes Jihad Watch Director Robert Spencer. "Those are both Muslim Brotherhood groups."
He is mindful of the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is an organization that is dedicated, according to a captured internal document known as the 1991 Explanatory Memorandum, to "eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within."
That document was recovered by the FBI during a 2004 search and later introduced as evidence in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial. It contains the often-quoted phrase describing a "civilizational-jihadist process" aimed at "eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within." The authentic document is highly significant because it reflects the Muslim Brotherhood's long-term strategy for expanding its influence in North America.
In addition to supporting that, Spencer says El-Sayed is a hardcore socialist.
"He's going to be another one of these socialist Muslim candidates," he says. "A lot of people don't understand how socialism and Islam go together, but actually, they are both authoritarian, anti-American systems that are internationalist as well."
"This guy," he concludes, "is just as bad news as Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. He's cut out of the same cloth."
El-Sayed has been leading primary polls by an average of more than 5%.
