State Senator Scott Wiener, a 55-year-old gay Democrat, is running for Pelosi's seat on the House of Representatives in 2026. He previously worked as a deputy city attorney and a member on the Board of Supervisors before being elected to the California Senate.
The priorities on Wiener’s platform include expanding and protecting LBGTQ rights from the Trump administration and protecting illegal aliens while going against ICE. According to the San Francisco Standard, he raised $730,000 on the first day that he announced his campaign.

The article also states that he previously said he would not run against Pelosi. However, the NBC reports that Pelosi decided not to seek re-election and choose to retire. She announced that she was “passing the torch” after the outcome to Proposition 50 was announced.
Greg Burt is the vice president of California Family Council.
"If you think Nancy Pelosi is liberal, Scott Wiener is on steroids liberal," Burt tells AFN.
In addition to supporting a California law requiring large retailers to have gender-neutral toy and children's product sections, Burt informs that Wiener sought to end the war on drugs, to legalize prostitution, and to allow men into women's prisons.
"He has turned California into a designation to get surgical — they call it transgender, gender-affirming care for minors," explains Burt. "So, if any kid from another state is kidnapped to California, California will take temporary custody so they can get their puberty blockers, steroids, and have their breast removed if they believe they’re a different sex.”
Burt calls this guy “the worst of the worst,” but Wiener does have his supporters. As previously mentioned, he almost raised a million dollars first night that he announced his campaign. While it takes a lot of money and voters to get elected to Congress, Burt is doubtful that Wiener becomes a moderate anytime soon.
"He does not care about religious liberty or freedom of speech, and if you don't agree with him, he'll call you a bigot, a fascist, a Nazi," says Burt. "We've been called that when we testified on bills."
