Turek pulled into conspiracy theory over Kirk assassination

Christian apologist Frank Turek was standing close by when his friend Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University, but now Turek has been pulled into a conspiracy theory that implicates him in the assassination.

Turek, known for sharing his faith with skeptical audiences on college campuses, was a friend and mentor to the late Turning Point USA leader. That friendship put Turek at UVU for the first stop on Kirk’s “American Comeback” college tour.

Now that numerous videos of the fatal shooting are circulating online, social media sleuths have noticed a man standing to Kirk’s right. The man, now identified as Turek, appears to touch the bill of his baseball cap, and his right ear, moments before the single shot.

The accusation is blatant: Turek was signaling someone, likely the shooter, and is therefore involved in assassination, conspiracy theorists are insisting.

Turek, Frank (Christian apologist) Turek

Reacting to that allegation, Christian apologist Alex McFarland told American Family Radio the two men have been close friends for years. After the shooting, McFarland said,Turek attempted CPR and drove the vehicle that took Kirk to an emergency room.

“I've known Frank since 1990. He's an incredible man of God. He's brilliant,” McFarland said. “So please don't believe the urban legend that momentarily popped up over the weekend saying that he was complicit.”

Rather than hide from the video, Turek’s own X account published it along with a statement from his ministry, Cross Examined.

“Like everyone, we want Charlie’s assassin brought swiftly to justice, but reckless and false accusations only distract from the truth and dishonor Charlie’s memory,” the message states.

The video and Turek’s statement have generated more than 2.8 million views.
