Mass. Democrats are hypocritical toward Republican redistricting in Texas

A Massachusetts based pro-family activist says it's hypocrisy for the state's governor to criticize Texas "gerrymandering" when Massachusetts invented the word.

Much has been made of the sheer hypocrisy of Democrats who have complained about the Texas Republican plan to redraw its congressional boundaries to potentially pick up five GOP seats.

When Texas Democrat legislators left the state in an attempt to hold up a vote on the new map, many of them chose to hangout in Massachusetts where Democrat Governor Maura Healey threw out the welcome mat. As reported by CBS News, she referred to the Texas redistricting plan "a partisan, craven, political power grab attempt by the President of the United States."

The fled Democrats are facing $500 in fines for each day they are gone.

"The districts here [Massachusetts] are pretty well gerrymandered. Of course, they invented the word ‘gerrymander’ in Massachusetts. Elbridge Gerry was the governor of Massachusetts a million years ago when they invented the term of ‘gerrymandering’," Camenker informed.

The redistricting in Texas is encouraged by President Donald Trump, as it could add five Republican seats in Congress. He has pointed out the hypocrisy in Democrats, especially in Massachusetts, for condemning this as they are the originally began gerrymandering.

The fact is that 40% of Massachusetts voters voted for Republican representation at the federal level in 2024, and yet there isn't a single Republican member of Congress.

"There could be a Republican district. There are certainly Republican areas of Massachusetts that would elect a Republican congressman, but they've effectively made that impossible. So, it's hypocrisy for the governor of Massachusetts to criticize gerrymandering districts so that a certain party can win," says Camenker.
