An immigration enforcement advocacy group says inflammatory comments from left-wing members of Congress are partially to blame for recent violence.

Early Monday morning, federal agents were compelled to take out a shooter after he opened fire upon them at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas. 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda's motive is currently unknown, but he had an assault rifle and was carrying a utility vest, and law enforcement said they found another rifle and more ammunition.

As Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington) has defended on her claim that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a "terrorist force," accusing them of "coming and kidnapping and disappearing people on the streets of the United States," Ira Mehlman, media director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), says far-left members of Congress may be responsible for spurring on crazed people.

"We've been hearing for years from people on the Left that this kind of irresponsible rhetoric can lead to violence," he notes. "Since the Trump administration has said that we're going to enforce our laws in the interior and that ICE agents are going to be out there doing their jobs, we've been seeing this sort of really reckless rhetoric … and these are the inevitable results."

Mehlman recommends a return to reason.

"Pramila Jayapal and others don't like the policies of the Trump administration," he recognizes. "They are free to express their opinions about why the policies are bad, but when you start calling federal law enforcement agencies terrorists, that is beyond the scope of rational political debate and gets us into inflammatory rhetoric."

One officer was injured in the shooting, but it was unclear if the injury was from shrapnel or a bullet.
