The two-term Democrat is one of President Trump's fiercest critics, and many political pundits believe he has eyes on the White House in 2028. However, Illinois does not have term limits, and Pritzker has decided to go for a third term.
Illinois is only one of 14 states that do not have term limits for governor.
P. Rae Easley is the founder and chair of Chicago RED, which has the goal of moving citizens away from the liberal progressive failures that are bankrupting the city. She is not impressed with JB Pritzker, thinking it very audacious considering the dire straits of the state.
“The fact that he has decided to pick a fight with the president of the United States at the beginning of his term means that if our governor is reelected, the state is going to be in a very contentious relationship with the federal government. And that's not fair to us because they have a personal beef,” explains Easley.
Since Pritzker entered office, Illinois has faced negative setbacks, with some being “failure on the economic metric,” “increasing hostile tax climate,” and “decline in educational outcomes” when compared to other states.

Easley thinks it is very dangerous for the state because Pritzker has maintained Illinois will remain a sanctuary state, “which means that the invoices that are attached to these illegals are going to continue to show up on the property taxes of Illinois residents.”
Easley believes that is not fair at all. She says there are at least a couple of good potential candidates to challenge Pritzker.
“I hope that the Illinois GOP puts up a contender that can really push back against our billionaire governor whose been very successful in using his wealth to manipulate the politics here. So hopefully people will take his money but vote for the other guy," Easley says.
So far, only James Mendrick, a sheriff from DuPage County, is a Republican that has announced his candidacy. Two other independent candidates, Joseph Severino and Phil Perex, have also thrown their names in the ring.
