Representative Mike Lawler (R-New York) spoke with Fox News Channel’s “American Reports” program. He is firmly against having Zohran Mamdani, an avowed socialist, running to be mayor of the financial capital of the world.
"He has denounced capitalism, he says he wants to eliminate billionaires, he wants to freeze rent, he wants government-run grocery stores, he wants free busing and mass transit, and yet who's paying for all of this?” Lawler asks. “As Margaret Thatcher said, 'the problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money,' and that's exactly what will happen.”

Lawler went on to predict what he called a ‘mass exodus’ out of New York City if Mamdani becomes mayor.
According to Lawler, New York already leads the nation in out-migration. With the highest tax burden, the worst business climate, a decline in the quality of life under Governor Kathy Hochul and one-party democratic rule, he believes things will not get better if Mamdani is elected.
“You throw in an avowed socialist who supports the BDS movement, who refuses to denounce 'globalize the intifada,' who says he wants to arrest foreign leaders who come to New York with whom he disagrees, including Bibi Netanyahu, it is absolutely insane,” Lawler affirms.
Lawler, who represents a district just north of New York City, said the same people that support Mamdani are coming for his seat. He believes candidates in other districts may also be targeted.
"What happens in New York does not stay in New York, and we need to make sure that we kill socialism and communism dead in its tracks here in America," Lawler says.
