VOM: Jihadists focus on rooting out, killing Christians first

The West African country of Burkina Faso continues to be a very dangerous place for Christians.

Islamists who are invading Burkina Faso have displaced at least two million people, killing some as they flee. According to Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs, the terrorists will come for Christians first.

"A pastor in Burkina Faso was attacked and killed on May 23. Jihadists came into this village, and they were asking, 'Where is the home of the pastor?' They were specifically looking for the pastor," Nettleton explains.

It did not go well for the guests the pastor had in his home at the time of the attack.

"He had five Christian friends with him. They heard the jihadists coming. They literally ran for their lives, but unfortunately they were caught [and] were all shot. So six people, six Christians killed in this attack."

That, of course, left six grieving families. But Nettleton says the martyrs of Burkina Faso are having the same effect on their attackers and the surrounding cultures that martyrs have had since the days of the Apostles.

"There's an amazing thing that God does when His followers are willing to lay down their lives," the VOM spokesman shares. "It attracts Christians who maybe aren't as bold in their faith to say, 'Wow, I want to be like that person.' But it also attracts Muslims who look at that and say, 'Wow, there must be something to this Jesus.'"

Nettleton hosts The Voice of the Martyrs Radio weekly broadcast, which is heard on more than 1,000 Christian radio stations.
