Canada seeks to enlist foreign military troops, maybe from China

A Canadian conservative activist thinks it is extremely dangerous for Canada to recruit certain foreign nationals to serve in its military.

When Joe Biden was president, military recruiting was very problematic as the various service branches often failed to meet their recruiting goals. But when Donald Trump was re-elected president in 2024, military recruiting boomed.

Looking at the U.S.’s neighbors to the north, Canada still has a liberal government and still has a military recruiting crisis. Things are so bad, that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's government plans to import foreign troops into Canada's military, especially those with critical skills like doctors, nurses and pilots.

According to the Toronto Sun, Lena Metlege Diab, Canadian minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship, said that they have identified sectors of critical need, prompting the creation of the skilled military recruits category to attract foreign applicants. It is not apparent where the foreign troops will come from.

CTV News reports that Canadian General Jenni Carignan, chief of defense, gives a specific example of them trying to find pilots for F-35 fighter jets and a Netherlands fighter pilot who wants to move to Canada.

Rushfeldt, Brian Rushfeldt

Brian Rushfeldt is the former president of Canada Family Action. He says one reporter asked the defense minister if he would allow any communist Chinese military to be included.

"He refused to answer that question, which indicates to me that, in fact, to try and build up our military — because we can't recruit enough people of our own — they would start bringing in foreign military to join our forces,” Rushfeldt says. “And I am convinced that the first forces that they would allow into here under Crooked Carney would be Chinese people."

Rushfeldt is convinced that Carney's relationship with the Chinese is dangerous.

"Are they going to fight for this country under this flag? Probably not, because who would expect them to do that? And so, the whole concept of foreign troops on our soil, approved by our liberal government, is extremely bizarre, and it's extremely dangerous," Rushfeldt states.
