Washington D.C. can no longer dismiss China, warns national defense analyst

A national defense strategist is warning that Washington D.C. can no longer afford to dismiss the threat of the Chinese while obsessing over Ukraine and the Middle East.

Bob Maginnis is former Army Infantry officer, national defense analyst, and President of Maginnis Strategies, LLC. He has published a column on Fox News entitled, “Fiddling while Rome burns: America ignores China's rising red tide.”

In the column, he stressed that while Washington D.C. obsesses over Ukraine and the Middle East, the Chinese Communist Party is building the most formidable military challenge the United States has faced in generations.

"We can no longer afford to dismiss the threat of the Chinese not only in eastern Asia, but globally. They have a global sea power capability. They have a hypersonic capability. Their cyber capability is probably equal or close to equal to ours,” warns Maginnis. “You just keep going on, and this is all unclassified. There's classified stuff that's much more sensitive and pretty revealing."

The column also mentions that the U.S. is preoccupied with NATO in hindering Russia and in the Middle East because of Iran’s nuclear capabilities. This has left the focus on Asia, specifically the Indo-Pacific, particularly lacking as it remains underpowered.

Maginnis believes that, even though President Trump should still be in office, the Chinese leader has ordered the People's Liberation Army to be ready by 2027 to take Taiwan.

“He has brought some common sense to our foreign policy and has started the long up ramp to improve our national security agenda. However, given what's going on in the world, even a reversal of the four Biden administration policies does not guarantee that what we face with the likes of Communist China – it is  a very dangerous future," says Maginnis.

Maginnis concludes in his column that the time is late, but not yet too late. America must stop fiddling and face the fire before the flames consume all.
