Remembering 9-11: Some just knew first plane to hit WTC was more than a terrible accident

The anniversary of the 9-11 terror attacks is still a day away, but many Americans are already sharing stories about where they were on that day.

Former FBI agent Darin Kinder told American Family Radio that he was in the middle of it all, a young agent at the New York field office on September 11, 2001.

"Upon impact we grabbed these huge first aid trauma kits that we have for our job and starting rendering first aid to victims on the street. That's where I was when the second plane came in and hit the south tower,” Kinder told Jenna Ellis In The Morning guest host Alex McFarland this week.

Kinder said that he didn't know whether it was instincts or training, but he did not think it was an accident when a plane struck the first tower of The World Trade Center. Many say a terrible accident was their first reaction.

"I knew that radical Islamic terrorists tried to destroy the trade center in 1993 with a truck bomb, and I knew that they had promised that they would try again. So, I knew it was game on, I knew it was an attack, but I didn't know the magnitude of it at that time."

McFarland, host of the "Exploring the Word" program on American Family Radio, said he was getting ready to head out on a ministry trip when his phone rang.

Two planes hit the towers, a third hit the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. A fourth, believed bound for the White House, crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The fourth plane was carrying a McFarland family friend.

"My mom called and said 'turn on the tv, turn on the tv.' The first plane had hit. My mother said "we're at war, we're at war." I said, "no, maybe it was just tragic accident, Mom.' Of course, we were both horrified. Well, then, like, I'm watching on live television and the second plane hit. I was like, 'Oh, okay, this is real. This is real.'"
