Dr. Kurt Miceli, Do No Harm's medical director who is board certified in both psychiatry and internal medicine, says under the guise of unfounded expertise, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is infecting pediatric hospitals with gender ideology, pressuring them to perform irreversible procedures on pediatric patients.

"They've done this through a Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), which is a scorecard that measures a hospital on how well it is adhering to some core tenants of gender ideology," Dr. Miceli relays. "It pushes this to hospitals to adopt it, to practice it so they can achieve these high scores."
In his professional opinion, hospitals should want nothing to do with the index and should certainly not want a top score.
"About 75% of the more than 1,000 facilities in 2024 that completed the Healthcare Equality Index … either received a top award or a runner up, which pretty much says that they're doing what the Human Rights Campaign has said in terms of gender-affirming care," he relays. "This includes for kids."
He thinks hospitals should instead prioritize helping kids with problems like gender dysphoria.
"Hospitals need to focus on caring for kids … and look for ways that are therapeutic in terms of psychotherapeutic options – not putting kids on a train of puberty blockers, hormones, and operations," Dr. Miceli submits.
Do No Harm reports that 41 children's hospitals, as well as several pediatric facilities embedded in larger health systems, voluntarily sought the HRC's approval through participation in the 2024 HEI.
