According to TMZ, police released bodycam footage that shows how Sunny Hostin a reacted in an entitled manner when her son was being cited for trespassing. She tells the officers that she's a former federal prosecutor and that her son just graduated from Harvard and is teaching fourth grade geometry.
The police say that Gabriel Hostin was trespassing last month on active railroad tracks in New York, and Gabriel claims that he did not see the no trespassing sign while on his run. Sunny made the excuse that the area was still new to him after they moved there last year.
However, a released photo from the incident reveals the gate Gabriel went through had the sign he didn’t see.
For someone who was so hard on President Donald Trump and other Republicans, telling her audience that "nobody is above the law," one could argue that this recent incident shows that she really doesn't practice what she preaches. Fox News discussed her actions and handling of the situation, mainly how it conflicts with her previous statements.
Nicholas Fondacaro, associate editor for the Media Research Center, agrees.
“She's one of the biggest hypocrites in the media. Essentially, she’ll go around saying especially for Trump and Republicans that nobody is above the law. But for her, her and her family are above the law,” Fondacaro states.
While some argue that any parent would've done the same to try and protect their child, Fondacaro argues that, while explaining to the police that her son was a good kid is all fine and well, she did still try to throw around her fame and position to get her kid out of a bind that not every parent would have.
“But then she took it to the next level, saying here are my credentials as somebody who is above you, as just a lowly MTA police officer,” Fondacaro says.
Hostin says that she will represent her son in the case, having already written a letter to the district attorney to drop the case.
