It has likely been a hard couple of days for the overtly pro-Palestinian Christiane Amanpour over at CNN. She had to acknowledge the victory that Israel achieved in getting its hostages back. However, while explaining that any hostage held for two years is going to carry scars for a long time, she came up with this piece of fake news, reports News Busters.
“You know, they're probably being treated better than the average Gazan because they are the pawns and the chips that Hamas had,” said Amanpour.
She then laments on how Hamas has given up their leverage so that means a victory for Israel.
Amanpour later walked the statement back in an X post, saying she was insensitive and wrong. She also went on to write about how she has been horrified about what Hamas has subjected to the hostages.
Tim Graham of Media Research Center says that her bias got the best of her. Despite that, he says that she had to have seen the pictures of broken and starving hostages made to dig their own graves.
“Christiana Amanpour wants to always sound like the most Pro-Palestinian advocate she can. So, she has to stand up for the average Gazan,” explains Graham.
As for the apology, Graham says it almost certainly wasn't her idea.
“I imagine some of the brass at CNN said, 'Chrissy, you got to change that,' and then she put out a statement on X saying that she was insensitive and wrong,” states Graham.
Graham says that Amanpour spent her childhood in Iran and later moved to the UK then to the US. But Graham says her childhood allegiances were hard to overcome.
“She's never lost that pro-Muslim, anti-Israel point of view. I think that's carried her around the world,” says Graham.
