That may become a necessary action.
Trump has announced that a deal has been reached for the terrorist group Hamas to disarm and for Israel to withdraw its forces from Gaza.
But there are many hurdles and long timelines along the path to completion. Trump said, "As disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw, and the International Stabilization Force will work with a new Palestinian police force to take responsibility for Gaza being safe for its residents and its neighbors."
Gary Bauer is president of American Values, a nonprofit policy organization, who served on the Board of Christians United for Israel.
"Trump's trying some new approach. It may fail. Hope springs eternal. It's certainly something we can all pray about, but I don't believe either President Trump or any Israeli government would make concessions to get this deal that can't be easily reversed if the other side doesn't hold up their end.
Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement in October 2025 after indirect negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey involved in mediation. Israel's cabinet approved it.
By January 2026, Israel confirmed that the remains of the last Hamas-held hostage had been returned, allowing the agreement to move formally into its second phase.
The ceasefire eventually stalled over issues addressed in the new agreement — Hamas disarmament and Israeli withdrawal.
During an appearance on American Family Radio Bauer said the West is in a state of denial about the state of the enemy.
"This is a death cult. It resides in part of Islam. There are millions of these people, and their goal is to change the world into one big Islamic caliphate. We're coming up to the 25th anniversary of the attacks on 9-11, and we're still in denial about what motivated those hijackers to do that."
