The Michigan Democrat primary is Aug. 4. A new poll shows El-Sayed in a neck and neck race with Michigan Congresswoman Haley Stevens. Stevens may be helped by outgoing senator Gary Peters who has endorsed her.
Robert Spencer is the director of Jihad Watch.
"It's heartening to see. I think that, unfortunately, people like Sen. Peters represent a point of view that is no longer current in the Democrat party and is certainly not mainstream and is rapidly disappearing. But it's heartening to see that there are still a few of the Democrats who think, ‘well, wait a minute, I'm an American. I actually like the U.S. Constitution,’” he said.
Now the Washington Free Beacon reports that El-Sayed's father-in-law is a top donor to a super PAC supporting the Senate hopeful. And Spencer says El Sayed shares his father in law's support of Islamic organizations.
As part of his role with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), which the federal government linked to the financing of Hamas, Tayeb Jukaku contributes at least $5,000 to the organization annually, The Beacon reports.
Federal prosecutors identified ISNA as an unindicted co-conspirator in the landmark 2007 terrorist financing case USA v. Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, which culminated in the conviction of the foundation's founders for funneling $12 million to Hamas, The Beacon reports.
Prosecutors also identified ISNA as one of eight entities who are or were members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.
"Abdul El-Sayed supports Hamas, supports the Muslim Brotherhood, essentially wants to destroy constitutional rule in the United States and ultimately establish an Islamic state. There are more and more of these people running in the very far Left. He hates Israel, wants the United States to withdraw all support for Israel at every level. This is the kind of thing that's become mainstream in the Democrat party,” Spencer said.
