That may be the case, but Hamas is not beyond committing some spiteful, vindictive act during these historic days, attorney Ron Coleman, who is Jewish, said on American Family Radio Monday.
“Well, let's put it this way. Hamas follows in the grand Palestinian Arab tradition of never losing the opportunity to lose an opportunity,” Coleman told show host Jenna Ellis.
"The skies are calm, the guns are silent, the sirens are still and the sun rises on a Holy Land that is finally at peace," Trump told the Knesset, Israel's parliament, saying a "long nightmare" for both Israelis and Palestinians was over.
After speaking to Israeli lawmakers Trump flew to Egypt to meet with other world leaders to discuss maintaining peace and next steps for the Middle East.
The war began on Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas terrorists launched from Gaza that killed 1,200 people with 251 taken hostage, the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.
Israeli airstrikes, bombardments and ground offensives are alleged by Hamas to have killed more than 67,000 Palestinians. The numbers come from Gaza’s health officials, but Hamas is Gaza’s governing authority.
A global hunger monitor said Gaza City and surrounding areas are suffering from a famine afflicting over half a million Palestinians, and most of Gaza's 2.2 million people are homeless, Reuters reports.
Aid supplies are expected to flow more smoothly into Gaza under Trump's plan, U.N. officials say.
While Israel has battled Hamas, they’ve waged war also against Lebanon-based Hezbollah, against the Houthis in Yemen and against Iran.
Monday, the front page of The Jerusalem Post hailed Trump as “The Peacemaker.”
While hostages have been freed, the process of identifying the hostages is ongoing.
But will there be Hamas tricks?
When the remains of hostages are returned, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will have to confirm the bodies do not include hidden explosives.
Sunday, the IDF said it was preparing for possible Hamas “provocations” overnight, The Times of Israel reported.
“If they do something that foolish in a situation such as this, where they have already given up any leverage they might have had, and to go ahead and then humiliate not only the Israelis, but the president of the United States and the United States of America itself, they will be guaranteeing a level of ‘find out’ that will be even beyond anything they've experienced so far,” Coleman said.
The process continues to unfold, but Monday morning saw images of the remaining live hostages – no female hostages survived -- and families reuniting.
“They're nattering to each other in Hebrew. It’s really a very, very touching thing to see,” Coleman said.
He remains cautiously optimistic that this peaceful transition will continue.
“Are they going to booby trap corpses? There’s nothing that's too depraved for these people, but I'm pretty skeptical,” Coleman said.
Coleman: The fight hasn’t left Hamas
As Trump works to secure a lasting peace, Coleman warns that Israel has defeated the body of Hamas, not the spirit.

While Hamas voluntarily steps back, it’s not tired of war and fully believes it can win. Islam teaches it was Ishmael, not Issac, who was bound by Abraham and destined for sacrifice before God intervened.
“They are prepared to sacrifice Ishmael, their entire nation, as part of their dedicated commitment to destroying not only everyone in the world who stands in the way of Islam and jihad, but especially Isaac's descendants,” Coleman said.
“They don’t think they can’t prevail, and they’re not tired of it.”
