Jewish ministry supports Israeli West Bank settlement despite calls for Palestinian state

The head of a messianic Jewish ministry hopes Israel's announcement that it intends to construct a new settlement in the West Bank will get in the way of those who are pushing the concept of a Palestinian state.

The Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced a new settlement in the West Bank after many countries said they would recognize a Palestinian state beginning in September.

"This reality finally buries the idea of a Palestinian state because there is nothing to recognize and no one to recognize. Anyone in the world who tries today to recognize a Palestinian state – will receive an answer from us on the ground," said Smotrich.

The Israelis have planned the settlements for more than two decades but was frozen due to U.S. pressure during previous administrations. On Thursday, Smotrich praised President Donald Trump and U.S. ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee as "true friends of Israel as we have never had before."

"We hope this gets in the way of a Palestinian state, but this concept of the Palestinian state is going to move to the United Nations in September, and it's spread all around the world,” states Markell.

However, Markell does not think there ever will be a Palestinian state, pointing out that there was one called Gaza.

She also says that the Israeli settlement sends a message.

"This is Israel's land. People need to get over it. I know they won't, but they need to get over it. It's all in Israel's land. So, the fight is against God and the Bible," Markell says.
