DOJ sues UCLA for repeated indifference to antisemitic attacks

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has decided to take matters into their own hands with the widespread antisemitism at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

The DOJ has filed a lawsuit against the UCLA for "deliberate indifference" to "race and national origin discrimination against Jewish and Israeli students." According to the press release, the lawsuit claims that students of Jewish decent have been physically assaulted, injured, excluded from campus, and deprived of education opportunities due to their heritage.

Furthermore, the DOJ claims UCLA has intentionally shown indifference to the issue and, therefore, has violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Fox News reported on the lawsuit and the lawsuit’s address of the extreme heights of antisemitism UCLA avoided acknowledging in 2024, when masked agitators built an encampment to block building access from Jewish students and assaulted them.

Eli Tsives was the victim of one of these antisemitic attacks recently. He spoke to Fox News about his experience, claiming that while he was counter protesting, demonstrators took his Israeli flag. When he went to retrieve the flag, Tsives says a group surrounded him, punched him and put him in a head lock.

In his most recent interview, he said the scariest part for him was the lack of response from security at the event.

“Notice something scary. There was no police presence there. There was security that did not intervene. Only a little bit later did the police come and disperse the crowd, but nobody was there to help me and protect me,” Tsives says.

When asked about the DOJ lawsuit, Tseves expressed hope that the case would help these incidents become less prevalent across campuses in the U.S.

“This lawsuit will ensure that schools and college campuses will no longer run around and avoid protecting not just Jewish students, but all types of students. Every student needs to be a protected student on campus and, unfortunately, that just isn't the case, especially Jewish students,” says Tsives. “This lawsuit will ensure that we will be protected and something like this will never ever happen again.”
