Despite common assumptions, summer is one of the busiest seasons for Students for Life. The organization's summer schedule features several major events, including the annual Celebrate Life Weekend.
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, launched the organization in 2006. Since then, she's built a national network of more than 1,600 campuses with Students for Life groups.
While the organization is dedicated to starting Students for Life groups on high school, college and graduate campuses, their core mission is not starting groups but abolishing abortion. According to their website, they have become one of the leading pro-life advocacy organizations in the world.
Hawkins discussed the upcoming calendar and highlighted the Life Weekend event as a key focus.
"This is a day where we remember the Dobbs decision, the overturning of Roe, doing something that everyone said couldn't be done, and it's a day where we're bringing the pro-life movement together in communities across America," Hawkins says.
The event is designed to raise awareness of the truths of the abortion industry. The weekend happens during the National Celebrate Life Day with a sunset worship and prayer event at Washington, D.C. from 7-9 p.m. on June 20.
Communities across the nation are encouraged to participate as prayer vigils take place in state capitals and the nation’s capital. As night approaches, luminaries will be lit to symbolize “the preborn children we fight for” and to shine “as a collective declaration that America can choose LIFE.”
According to Hawkins, over 2,000 children perish daily due to abortions. She also called the pro-life community to action nationwide, to get involved with the events in their local communities.
"I would love to have folks join us at their state capitals, in front of Planned Parenthood abortion facilities. You can host your own 250th luminary display on Saturday, June 20th, a prayer and worship event," Hawkins.
The Life Weekend is just one of many events being put on by the group, who hope to one day see the end to the abortion industry.
