DeSantis: U.S. should focus on immigration as a whole, not just the illegals' problem

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is suggesting the U.S. narrow its immigration strategy to not only keep out illegal immigrant but closely vet the legal ones as well.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents just finished what they called Operation Dirtbag in Florida, where they arrested more than 230 criminal illegal aliens, including 150 sexual predators.

In his press conference announcing the success of the mission, DeSantis (shown right) suggested the U.S. immigration laws could be even tougher. He says conservatives fall into the false binary of saying illegal immigration bad, legal immigration good.

“Is bringing 10 million people from like Somalia and dumping them into Georgia … is that good because it's legal?”

He says the U.S. needs to be more selective in the legal immigrants it lets into the country.

“What are we doing with an immigration policy? And is it benefiting the American people? Is it helping to promote a strong American culture?” DeSantis asks.

And no matter how sympathetic their story…

“We should never bring people into this country who hate America.”

Legal immigration is governed by the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and is divided into several major categories: family-based immigration, employment-based and humanitarian.

Also, 55,000 visas are allotted annually for applicants from countries with low rates of U.S. immigration.

DeSantis says the line should have been drawn at New York City Mayor Elect Zohran Mamdani's dad, a professor at Columbia University.

Mahmood Mamdani (shown at left in lead photo above), born in 1946, is a native Ugandan, Indian-descent scholar who is widely known for his work in African history, political violence, colonialism, and post-colonial governance.

“America is the genesis of what we call settler colonialism. For the Nazis, for the Nazis, this was the inspiration,” Mahmood Mamdani said.

DeSantis is saying that the U.S. should learn a lesson from western Europe.

“Europe did a mass migration that was legal, that was intentional, and it's proven to be disastrous.”
