Are members of the Chicago Teachers Union looking to undermine ICE and protect illegals? One member says 'yes.'

During a late September meeting that was on camera, CTU member Kat Zamarron said that what ICE is doing is wrong, reports Deported News, a website that reports about illegal immigration and ICE.

According to Fox News, this is the same CTU that mourned the death of Assata Shakur, a convicted murder who was on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list living under political asylum in Cuba.

Zamarron added that the union is working with Chicago Public Schools to create "sanctuary teams" to protect illegal immigrants. Zamarron also spoke of a "rapid response group" to warn illegal immigrants in Chicago, while also describing efforts to put schools on "lockdown" to prevent ICE agents from entering the buildings.

"Anything that touches students at schools also touches our communities," Zamarron said. "We see the worst of people in some of these ICE agents, but we see the best of people in folks who are willing to come together and protect our people.”

These so-called protections are similar to the executive order signed by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson that allows for the establishment of “ICE-free zones,” reports Fox News. ICE can’t use police departments or other city areas to prepare for missions, and now they are bared from city parking lots and garages. Private business are also allowed to turn them down if they are unwilling to let ICE use their property.

David E. Smith of Illinois Family Institute told AFN that this is "outrageous." Smith is contemplating filing an official complaint with Department of Labor or Department of Homeland Security.

"They're urging members to block ICE agents from doing their work," says Smith. "They should be held accountable."

Smith adds that they're "fighting harder for criminal aliens" than they are for the hard working, taxpaying citizens of Chicago and Illinois.

"It is absolutely ridiculous," says Smith. "I think they might be violating some federal laws.
