New York City's top mayoral candidate says voters should pay no attention to his previous calls to dismantle the NYPD.

Democrat Zohran Mamdani was at his family's lavish compound in Uganda on July 28 when he learned of the Midtown Manhattan shooting, the city's deadliest in 25 years.

Since returning home, he has been trying to convince voters to forget that he called police officers "racist, anti-queer, and a major threat to public safety" on social media at the height of the Defund the Police movement in 2020.

"What we need is to #DefundTheNYPD," he wrote on X that year.

He claims to have grown since then, telling reporters last week, "I am not defunding the police; I am not running to defund the police. Over the course of this race, I've been very clear about my view of public safety and the critical role that the police have in creating that public safety."

But Lt. Randy Sutton of The Wounded Blue does not think anyone should believe a word Mamdani says.

Sutton, Randy (Wounded Blue) Sutton

"He has shown that he despises law enforcement," the retired law enforcement official observes. "He doesn't respect it. He doesn't believe that the police are there for good. He believes that they're there for evil."

He says Mamdani's current position is typical of a leftist Democrat who wants to get elected.

"What you're hearing from him now is the typical political back-speak that is done when a hypocrite gets caught being stupid," Sutton tells AFN.

He says the same kind of backpaddling can be heard from Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, and the rest of the Democrats who have their eyes on higher office -- but they are all lying.

"Mamdani is a nightmare," says Sutton. "As a potential leader of the largest city in the United States, it is frightening that he has even achieved what he has achieved so far. If he gets into office, it will be a field day for criminals. There will be joy in the streets."

Meanwhile, a new poll conducted by Zenith Research & Public Progress Solutions shows Mamdani is polling higher than all NYC mayoral candidates combined.
