One week – one nation – one book

America Reads the Bible will be held next year at the Museum of the Bible, reigniting America's spiritual foundation as we celebrate 250 years of freedom.

During the week-long, continuous Bible-reading, leaders from every sphere will speak the Scriptures aloud from beginning to end. It will be hosted by Christians Engaged from April 18th – 25th.

Bunni Pounds, president and founder of the highly trusted source for civic prayer, voting resources and engagement, recently told American Family Radio she got the idea for the event and movement a few years ago while touring the Museum of the Bible and reading about Nehemiah and Ezra's respect and appreciation for the Word of God.

"We're trying to get American Christians to go out and run for school board or be leaders in their community, but they're sitting, binge watching Netflix all day, and not reading the Bible," said Pounds. "It hit me that it really takes a depth of discipleship for us to know who we are in Christ and to walk out into the spaces of influence."

She remembers thinking it would be awesome if the nation's leaders all humbled themselves and said they need the Bible every day to make it and reminded the American people that they also need the Bible every day to make it.

She believes the event is a great backdrop as the nation celebrates its 250th birthday.

Private citizens, public figures, and politicians who cannot make the trip to the Museum of the Bible can still participate and watch via livestream through sites like Great American Pure Flix.

"We have tons of groups that you can join in," said Pounds. "Help us mobilize churches, Gen Z, prayer intercession folks. Help us fund it."

Christians Engaged exists to awaken, educate, and empower believers in Jesus Christ to pray for our nation and elected officials regularly, vote in every local, state, and national election to impact our culture, and engage our hearts in civic education or involvement for the well-being of our local communities and our nation.
