Speaking on Fox News Channel, Anthony Guglielmo, a New York City police officer, discussed the business he's created called ALT Flags that he uses to honor American service members by creating custom and traditional American flags made of wood.
"ALT flags is named after my three sons Anthony, Luke, and Tyler. And pretty much, what I do is recreate original flags out of wood, and I make many custom flags also. We do different logos, names, texts, images, coin racks, lights. You name it; we could do it."
The business was inspired by Guglielmo’s grandfather. As Guglielmo said, his grandfather always hung up a flag in his window and instilled that sense in him. Guglielmo wanted to express something that he liked into the world through something that he enjoyed doing, and he wanted his sons, whom his business is named after, to see that as well.
With his business, he also seeks to honor the American flag, which, he said, means everything to him.
"The American flag symbolizes hard work and determination. I believe that you create your own destiny in life, and I believe that I'm doing that through my own business. And like I said, it's about America, it's about freedom. And the flag means everything to me."
Guglielmo went on to describe the intricate processes involved in the creation of these wooden masterpieces, while also detailing the significant time he puts into each one.
"The finished product is not, you know, it looks like just the flag, but there's a whole lot to it. I hand select each piece of wood individually. From start to finish, definitely three to four hours per flag."
People can buy these wooden flags at altflags.com or through Instagram by messaging Guglielmo through his account titled ALT Flags.
