The second annual Louisiana Bible Reading Marathon continues today on the steps of the state Capitol.

Southland Christian Ministries (SCM) and Louisiana Family Forum are co-hosting the event that began yesterday, Wednesday, April 16, and wraps on Saturday night.

SCM Director Mike Herbster recently told Tony Perkins this marathon aims to proclaim God's Word as the ultimate authority and rule for all nations, governments, and people.

Because the Bible is at the heart of America's founding principles, he believes it should be voiced at the heart of America's federal and state governments.

"Last year … I reached out to Seedline International," he relayed. "Our desire is to publicly read straight through the Bible as a way of establishing the foundation for our lives and for our families and, of course, for our state."

Marathon volunteers can participate either in person or virtually.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R) and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser (R) have been invited, and Herbster says some of the state's legislators might even be seen on the Capitol steps over the next couple of days.

Seedline is the organization that does the Bible reading marathon in other states and the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon coming up April 26-30 in Washington, D.C.

SCM hosted it with them last year.
