Skyler Derrington was sleeping in the cabin closest to the Guadalup river on the night of July 4th when the flood waters began to rise. She and some of her cabinmates were rescued by the camp director, but there were 27 campers and counselors he could not get to.
Skyler tells Fox News that she's processing what she went through, and part of that was writing new lyrics to the Leonard Cohen song, Hallelujah.
Part of the rewritten lyrics read, “They say the water overcame, but I will never forget their names.”
“I wrote it for in honor of all of the girls at our camp, for those that we just lost, to honor them and to remember that God has a plan for all of us,” Skylar says.
She said her mom helped her with some of the lyrics, and with both her parents' help she is seeing the goodness of God even in this trial.
“That event that just went through, everything that just happened really helped my faith grow and everything, because all of my friends were there. We sung during the tragic event, and it just helped us grow,” says Skylar.
Skyler continued to say that she wants to be a Christian singer when she grows up, and Fox and Friends surprised her by bringing in her favorite gospel singer, Lauren Daigle, so they could meet.
