The midterm elections are drawing closer, but many Christian and conservative voters reportedly do not plan to participate. Linda Harvey, president of Mission: America, warns that gives the other side a much greater chance of taking control of Congress and subjecting the American people to their evil agendas.
"When I first became a Christian, I thought, 'How much the Lord has given us in America,' and I was so grateful," Harvey shares with AFN.
"Then I was mystified by people I would talk to who were Christians who said, 'Oh, we shouldn't get involved in politics. The Lord will take care of everything. I just trust in the Lord,'" she continues. "My eyes were opened at this point to the dangers in America, and, of course, they've multiplied greatly since the 1990s."
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association argues that elected officials and public policies can significantly affect issues such as religious liberty, parental rights, abortion and other matters of biblical concern. It urges Christians to compare candidates' positions and records with biblical principles when making their voting decisions.
Likewise, Harvey says Christian voters can make a difference in several of the upcoming races, and she cannot see how Christians can sit this out.
"Because we have the heart of the Lord, voting with biblical values will stop the evil that is threatening to take over America," she submits. "Socialism, Sharia law, all of the LGBTQ and pro-abortion issues — it's incredibly dangerous. We have never been at a more critical time in this country."
Harvey says Christians have a civic responsibility to vote because Americans have a unique opportunity to choose their leaders. Voting, which requires only a modest investment of time, portrays America's freedoms as a blessing that Christians should work to preserve.
Voting, she adds, is an act of peaceful, responsible citizenship, and Harvey encourages fellow believers to make sure they pray for guidance, do their homework and then vote, because political and cultural changes could threaten freedoms and the country's ability to support humanitarian efforts and spread the gospel.
