Texas governor says Democrats who have fled the state have 'forfeited' their offices

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says Democratic lawmakers who left his state to block the GOP from redrawing congressional district boundaries have effectively forfeited their seats.

Abbott says he will begin trying to remove Democratic lawmakers from office Monday if they do not return after dozens of them left the state in an attempt to block the adoption of redrawn U.S. House maps.

To that end, Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, released a statement Monday afternoon warning the fleeing Democrats that they will face consequences.

" I am prepared to do everything in my power to hold them accountable because these liberal lawmakers are not above the law. It's imperative that they be swiftly arrested, punished and face the full force of the law for turning their backs on the people of Texas."
